The Art League of Nassau County’s second annual Summer Membership Art Show at the Barnes Gallery recently had its opening reception. Many of the 51 artists attended the reception and were available to talk about their work to interested gallery-goers.
Six Garden City artists showed their work: Suzie Alvey, Harriet Carotenuto, Phil Costa, Jane McGraw, Linda Outcault and Marianne Reamer.

Suzanne McVetty, president of the Art League of Nassau County, thanked everyone who helped put the show together, especially Barnes Gallery owner Greg Schnoor and his assistant, Herbert Molina. Show coordinator and ALNC photographer Alvey took a quick poll of the artists there to see how many years they have been artists. The answer was well over a total of 1,000 years. Their work proves it.
The art show will take place from now through Aug. 27 at the gallery. Several sold at the reception and the additional pieces for sale include oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, mixed media and more.
Music was provided by Bob on guitar and Claire on flute of Perfect Strangers, with refreshments by Prime Caterers of Garden City South.
Barnes Gallery is located at 2 Nassau Blvd. in Garden City South. For more information,

The Art League of Nassau County (ALNC) will continue its monthly meetings in September 2016. It is a group of more than 100 painters and sculptors organized in support of activities in the fine arts. Since 1925, they have been painting and sculpting together in a supportive, social and artistic environment. The ALNC welcomes those interested in the arts to join them. It meets at the Clinton G. Martin Recreation Center, located at 1601 Marcus Avenue, at the corner of Marcus and New Hyde Park Road near Union Turnpike. The meetings are generally held the fourth Friday of every month, not including summers. Visit www.artleagueofnc.org or visit Art League of Nassau County on Facebook.
