Some of Hollywood’s most popular television shows and movies are celebrating an anniversary this year. Sitcom favorites like Everybody Loves Raymond turns 20, while the soap opera As The World Turns gracefully ages at 60. Everyone’s favorite caped crusader, Batman, turned 50 and right behind him packing a punch is Rocky turning 40. Check out what other favorite flicks have a special birthday.
The Ten Commandments—60 years
Cecil B. DeMille’s retelling of the Bible story remains a popular flick to watch during Easter. The compelling tale starred Charlton Heston (above), as Moses and Yul Brynner as Ramses. If you want to see how Moses discovered his Hebrew heritage according to Hollywood 60 years ago, give this classic a shot.
Batman—50 years
Holy anniversary, Batman! It’s been 50 years since Adam West (right), first took a ride in the Batmobile, spawning dozens of remakes, sequels and prequels for the superhero. Since then, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck have shared the cape.
Rocky—40 years
Yo, Adrian! Sylvester Stallone brought the character of Rocky Balboa (above), a small-time boxer from Philadelphia, to life 40 years ago. Initially chosen to take on the reigning world heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed, Rocky spanned a successful six sequels, with the most recent being Creed (2015).
As the World Turns—60 years
One of the longest running operas on daytime television, As The World Turns celebrates it’s 60th anniversary this year. When it aired on April 2, 1956, on CBS, viewers followed the love lives, heartbreak, difficult decision making and drama of the Hughes, Snyder and Walsh families that occupied the fictional town of Oakdale, IL. Stars such as Helen Wagner, Don Hastings and Eileen Fulton caught their big break on this show.
Everybody Loves Raymond—20 years
Ah, the Barones. Everyone fell in love with sports writer and family man Ray Barone, his wife Debra, brother Robert and meddling parents Frank and Marie. The sitcom lasted nine seasons and lives forever in syndication, still bringing joy to other dysfunctional families that can relate to crazy antics and laughs.
