Hempstead Shooting Leaves Man Dead

A 37-year-old man was shot to death in his hometown of Hempstead early Friday morning, Nassau County police said.

Hempstead village police officers responded to a Shot Spotter alert when they found Ricky Ward lying on the ground and suffering from a gunshot wound near the corner of Elizabeth Avenue and Baldwin Road at 12:25 a.m., police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
