Attention to poetry lovers: The deadline to submit original works to the Village of Great Neck Plaza’s 7th Annual Poetry Contest has been extended to Monday, Jan. 30.
Poets 18 years of age and older from Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn and Queens are invited to submit as many as three original unpublished poems in any style and on any subject with a 30-line-maximum length. Each poem should have a title, and contestants must include two copies of each poem, one with the poet’s name and address below the poem and one anonymous. A cover sheet listing the poet’s name, address, phone number, email address and the title of each poem should be included with your submission. A one-time nonrefundable entry fee of $15, payable to Long Island Traditions, must be included with the submission.
Poetry entries must be postmarked by Jan. 30, and sent to the village at 2 Gussack Plaza, Great Neck, NY 11021, Attn. Poetry Contest, in order to be considered for the grand prize of up to $150. Submissions can also be made in person at Village Hall during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
