A 38-year-old New York City police officer from Ronkonkoma was arrested over the weekend for allegedly sending a 16-year-old girl a video of himself masturbating, according to news reports and court records.

David P. Stagliano was charged Saturday with a felony count of disseminating indecent material to a minor and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child, court records show. He was released on $5,000 bail and is due back in Suffolk County court Thursday.

The officer, a member of the NYPD’s mounted unit, sent the 21-second sexually explicit video to a Long Island girl’s cell phone and then followed up with a lewd call, according to the New York Daily News, which first reported the story.

The NYPD said Stagliano was suspended without pay, a spokesman for the department said. His attorney could not be reached for comment. If convicted of the felony, he faces up to seven years in prison and would be required to register as a sex offender.
