Four talented Long Island music students had the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, April 2. The quartet performed “Ave Maria” by Franz Schubert in the Grand Prix Recital of the Concert Festival International Competition. Faith Ivers, the vocalist, is a sophomore at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville. Emily Beckner played violin and is in eighth grade at Our Lady of Mercy School. Giselle Rasquinha, cello, is an eighth-grader at South Woods Middle School in Syosset. Scott Rothmann, piano, is also an eighth grader and attends Hicksville Middle School.
The students rehearsed under the direction of music teacher Thomas Beckner. The students love music and play in their school ensembles as well as their church music groups and still have time for softball, swimming, dancing and science.
