On behalf of the Great Neck Historical Society, I would like to thank the businesses and individuals who have come forward so far to help sponsor our 5K Walk/Run to Help Save Stepping Stones Lighthouse, which will be held on Oct. 22.
The lighthouse, a landmark in our community and an important aid to navigation, has fallen upon hard times. Various engineers have estimated the cost of needed repairs—including fixing the foundation, roofing, masonry and complete interior, as well as installing windows and a heating system to prevent ice damage—in the millions.
The goal of the Historical Society is to be able to welcome tours to the lighthouse so that everyone will better understand the life of the lighthouse keepers and the role that Stepping Stones played and continues to play so close to our shore.
The following have taken the lead in supporting our fundraising run, and we are so appreciative: Andrew Hotel, Blank Slate Media, FCE Group, Ira D. Ganzfried, CPA, PC, Great Neck Chamber of Commerce, Great Neck Diner, Harras Bloom & Archer LLP, Inn of Great Neck, Edna Mashaal Realty, Hoosang Nematzadeh, Norman Collision Works, North Shore Prosthodontic Associates, Taiming Perlman–KW Realty, Rotary Club of Great Neck, Saltlife Marine Services LLC/NEFCU, Systematic Control, and Elona and Richard Weiner, Kensington, NY.
There is still time for you or your business to join the list of lighthouse supporters. Besides monetary support, our runners would appreciate donations of cases of water, fruit and other snacks. To become a sponsor, please contact us at greatneckhistorical@gmail.com or 516-288-6124.
