Looking Forward To More Village Fun

As we start the New Year I wanted to reflect on some of the community events we had in Farmingdale Village last year. We are proud of the diligence, energy and creative efforts that go into all of the events we enjoy and look forward to more of them in 2018.

There are so many dedicated volunteers, committee members and organizers that contribute and plan events (mostly free events) in Farmingdale Village. The Farmingdale Fire Department holds many events, including the annual Columbus Weekend Fair, parade, fireworks and street fairs, as well as other parades and fundraisers throughout the year.

The Chamber of Commerce hosts several events downtown, including the Holiday Parade/visit with Santa, as well as other parades, and plans ribbon cuttings welcoming and celebrating new businesses. The chamber is very active in the community and sponsors community events, such as music at the holiday tree lighting and the Easter Egg Hunt. Tina and Farmingdale-Massapequa Macaroni Kid is always involved in our events, with awesome face painting and kids activities; we appreciate all the efforts. We also appreciate the Farmingdale Fabulous Moms group, always helping the community with many efforts.

Several other groups pitch in, such as The Farmingdale Community Summit, which plans the annual Summit Expo event at the high school; The Rotary Club, which hosts an amazing Doggie Costume Parade and Fun on the Green; and Runners Edge, which plans the annual Memorial Day “Main Street Mile” race and fundraiser.

The Women’s Club, The Historical Society, Kiwanis, churches, schools as well as the Board of Trustees, are also very involved in local community efforts and events, demonstrating spectacular work and dedication. The many traditions include the Village Pops and Movies on the Green during our summer.

The Cultural Arts committee, headed by John Capobianco, plans the Easter Egg Hunt, Art in the Park, Cultural Arts Day, Open Mic Night, Gingerbread Competition and other events that are now traditions in the village.

The Farmingdale Village Merchants Association is very active, planning parades and events downtown. Headed by Joe Fortuna of the Nutty Irishman, the group plans The St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Music On Main, Restaurant Week, the Halloween Parade and Family Fun On the Green with a petting zoo, pony rides and more.

We thank all of the people planning, promoting and providing such fantastic community events in the village, and hope that everyone enjoys them this year. We hope to see you downtown.
