After scouting locations, CBS selected the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink as the perfect spot to shoot a scene for the TV show Instinct. The rink was abuzz with excitement when more than 100 CBS employees, including cast and crew, took over the Parkwood Sports Complex on Monday, Oct. 22, and Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Based on the James Patterson novel, Instinct, which first aired in March, stars Alan Cumming as a former CIA operative who is lured back to his old life when the NYPD needs his help to stop a serial killer. His character, Dr. Dylan Reinhart, is a gifted author and university professor living a quiet life teaching psychopathic behavior to packed classes of adoring students. But, when a tenacious NYPD detective appeals to him to help catch a serial murderer who is using Reinhart’s first book as a tutorial, he is compelled to come out of retirement.
Cumming was on set and in the scene filmed at the rink. Great Neck Park District Rec Aide/Hockey Coach Rob Campbell was hired as the Zamboni driver, who stood in for the on-screen actor.
Park district employees agreed that it was an interesting couple of days.
Look for the episode on television when season two of Instinct returns this spring, and you will see our skating rink starring on the screen.
