The 80-year-old original Zorn’s store in Bethpage will close for good Thursday as the company prepares to open a newly built store at the same location in a few days.
Long Island’s most famous hometown chicken and turkey restaurant will be temporarily closed during the transition, but the new store is expected to be up and running ahead of Mother’s Day.
“The time has finally arrived – construction is complete for the new Zorn’s of Bethpage store,” Merrill Zorn, owner of Zorn’s of Bethpage, said in a statement. “Zorn’s of Bethpage will be moving from its iconic building to its new home, located directly next-door.”
The take-out and catering business’s new 8,000-square-foot building is on the western side of its current location at 4321 Hempstead Tpke., the company said. It is borrowing several million to fund the transformation. The new location will include a small dining area, an addition Zorn’s attributed to popular demand.
Merrill’s grandfather, Peter Zorn, founded the business in 1940.
