Empowering.
That is the best word to describe this year’s Long Island Press Power Women Awards and Networking Event.
Presented by the Whitmore Agency, the soiree at Leoanrd’s Palazzo on Wednesday, May 8 drew more than 400 attendees to fete the Class of 2019.
The annual event, this year emceed by Emmy® Award-winning WNBC reporter Pei-Sze Cheng, recognizes and honors high-powered women whose achievements and participation in business and their communities have made a positive difference on Long Island.
“We have the honor of recognizing change makers, rainmakers, innovators, educators, and visionaries — all using your voice to impact change,” Joanna Austin, publisher of the Long Island Press, told the crowd.
The year’s Dynamic Duos were Stacey Meshnick and Debby Rosenfeld of Ronald Fatoullah & Associates, as well as Dr. Pamela R. Drullinsky of Memorial Sloan Kettering Nassau and breast cancer survivor Stacy Miranda, a middle school teacher from Long Beach.
“What empowers me is being here today, being honored amongst all of you,” said Justina Kalaj, vice president of merchandising for Lord + Taylor, which served as the evening’s Cocktail Sponsor. “What inspires me every day is being a role model for my team … it’s a wonderful feeling.”
In addition to honoring this amazing group of women, every year the event raises money for a worthy charity through a raffle. This year’s charity partner is Girls Inc, Long Island, a nonprofit organization that inspires girls and young women to be strong, smart and bold. The raffle raised $2,200.
“As you can see around you, when women support women, amazing things can happen,” said Victoria Schneps-Yunis, president and founder of Schneps Media, the parent company of Long Island Press. “Women can be powerful allies for each other in the workplace and in the community.”
