After nearly 40 years in Farmingdale, Gino’s Pizzeria on 333 Main St. has closed after losing its lease. Owner John Filagrossi and his team will continue operations at their new location in West Babylon, according to the business’ post on Facebook.
“We have exhausted every effort to remain in Farmingdale, but unfortunately these efforts were unsuccessful,” reads the post. “We want to sincerely thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you all these years, allowing us to be part of your pizza night tradition from one generation to the next. We feel so fortunate for your patronage, dedication and friendship all these years and in sharing this journey together. For this, we are forever grateful.”
Established in 1981, the family-owned restaurant’s origins, according to their website, stem from their years of “old world authentic pizza” that their father, Salvatore, brought with him when he emigrated from Naples, Italy back in the 1960s. The restaurant has had its place on the Main Street strip for many years, but is now forced to move on right as Farmingdale’s culinary boom has reached its peak.
More than 150 comments responded to the pizzeria’s post mourning their departure, with many saying that they are sad to lose such a staple to the community, but how they hope to keep doing business with Gino’s in their new place.
Gino’s will live on at its West Bablyon location, which opened its doors in November and is located on 90 Rt. 109 in the shopping center. To follow the restaurant in their new chapter, you can visit www.ginospizzawestbabylon.com.
“We hope you come and see us in our new location for your favorite pizza,” said the business’ closing remarks in their Facebook post. “Thank you for everything, Farmingdale.”
