High school students preparing to apply to colleges or universities in the coming months will face an unprecedented admissions and financial aid process for fall 2021 applicants due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, experts say.

Helping to navigate the challenges is Lockwood College Prep CEO Andy Lockwood, an author and leading college admissions and financial aid expert on Long Island. He will be hosting the live webinar along with Schneps Media, the parent company of the Long Island Press.

Whether you are the parents of a high school senior, or junior, or are divorced or separated and concerned about affording college, Lockwood can help.

For example, parents can negotiate with colleges after they offer financial aid and/or a merit aid package. Lockwood plans to explain how a Huntington family negotiated an extra $38,000 per year from the University of Pennsylvania after the university’s so-called final offer.

Did your accountant or financial advisor tell you where to save for college? Lockwood will explain why their advice may have ruined your chances of getting anything — and what to do about it at the 11th hour.

Which types of savings accounts do not penalize you in the financial aid formulas? Is the much-advertised 529 College Savings Plan a friend or foe? What are the legal loopholes business owners can use to unlock cash buried in their businesses? Lockwood intends to answer these questions and more.

Lockwood will also explain the counter-intuitive reason an expensive private college can actually cost less than a so-called “cheaper” state university, the strange reason why high-income families have an edge when it comes to getting aid from colleges, and how COVID-19 will affect college admissions and financial aid next year and beyond.

In addition, he will warn how high school guidance counselors or College Night might sabotage a student’s odds of admission or getting financial aid. Lockwood will also take questions live from the audience during this webinar.

All attendees will receive a free copy of Lockwood’s latest bestselling book, How to Negotiate Your Crappy Financial Aid and Merit Aid Offer.
