Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and honor his life and legacy at these Long Island events on Monday, Jan. 17.

MLK DAY OF REFLECTION PARADE & CEREMONY

The United People Organization, Inc. with the Village of Hempstead hosts their 29th annual parade leading up to the ceremony at Bethlehem Judea Church. Kennedy Memorial Park, 335 Greenwich St., Hempstead. villageofhempstead.org 9 a.m. 

SUMMERS OF FREEDOM: THE STORY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. IN CONNECTICUT

The Deer Park Public Library is airing the documentary by Simsbury High School students. Virtual, Facebook Live. facebook.com 11 a.m.

CHANGE THE WORLD WITH MLK JR. 

Children three and up are encouraged to draw and paint empowering images to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City. Free with admission. Licm.org 12-2 p.m.

CELEBRATE MARTIN LUTHER KING: THE DREAM BELIEVER 

Join Jerome “City” Smith and the City Sounds Music Ensemble for a free, live performance celebrating the birthday and legacy of Dr. King. Masks required for all, first-come-first seated. Elmont Memorial Library Theatre, 700 Hempstead Tpke., Elmont. Elmontlibrary.org 1 p.m.

MLK DAY SERVICE PROJECT

The Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center will host a drive through assembly and delivery project to create care packages for local seniors. Volunteers are asked to bring one easy-to-grow plant (i.e. succulents) per delivery. Registration required. Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center, 300 Forest Dr., Greenvale. Sjjcc.org 1-3 p.m.
