The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is starting the summer off with a batch of seasonal fare promotions designed to encourage riders to visit the region’s many attractions — and save some money.

The packages include deals on train rides and amenities at such destinations as Long Beach, Jones Beach, Fire Island, the Hamptons, North Fork wineries, and the Gold Coast, plus additional trains service to and from these stops. The cornerstone of the LIRR’s summer promotion is the Summer Saturdays Discount offering monthly ticket holders $1 fares for up to two additional passengers to any LIRR station on weekends between July 6 and Aug. 31.

“Whether you’re heading to the beach, park, or winery, the LIRR is the best way to explore everything Long Island has to offer this summer,” LIRR President Rob Free said.

Arguably the LIRR’s most famous summer train — The Cannonball, the 4:07 p.m. Friday express train from Penn Station to Westhampton that makes local stops through Montauk — is getting company. The Thursday Cannonball departs Penn at 5:13 p.m., stops at Jamaica, then runs express to Babylon before making local stops to Montauk. The Cannonball will also run on Wednesday, July 3, for those taking a long holiday weekend.

Summer packages can be purchased at LIRR ticket machines by selecting “MTA Deals,” then either “Long Island Deals” or “Escorted Tours.”

The Long Beach deal includes discounted train fare, beach admission and a voucher for discounts at local shops, all of which is available on weekends through June 23 and then daily through Sept. 2.

The Jones Beach package features discounted train fare to and from the Freeport station and NICE Bus transportation to the East or West Bathhouse daily through Sept. 29.

There are multiple Fire Island packages. The Robert Moses State Park deal offers discounted fares to and from the Babylon station and Suffolk County Transit bus tickets to and from the beach daily June 22 through Sept. 2. There are train, taxi and ferry fare packages for riders destined for the FI communities of Kismet, Ocean Beach, Ocean Bay Park, Cherry Grove, Fire Island Pines, Sailor’s Haven, Davis Park and Watch Hill daily through Sept. 2.

The East End also has multiple fare deals. The Splish Splash Waterpark package includes discounted train fare, discounted park admission and a Suffolk Transportation bus ride to and from the Ronkonkoma LIRR station, daily June 19 through Sept. 2. There are also LIRR ticket and tour packages that include round-trip train and bus service to Montauk’s top destinations, North Fork farms and vineyards as well as a Greenport lighthouse cruise.

The Gold Coast LIRR train and tour deals feature discounts on trains, buses and admission to the Vanderbilt Museum, Old Westbury Gardens, downtown Huntington and Oyster Fest in October.
