The Town of North Hempstead’s Asian American Festival will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 11:30 a.m. at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington. WAC Lighting will be the primary sponsor for this year’s event.
“North Hempstead is home to an amazing AAPI community, and we’re happy to celebrate them through such a fun event,” Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena said. “Family and friends of all backgrounds should come down and take part in cultural exchange to learn more about their neighbors while having a great time!”
North Hempstead’s Asian American Festival is a beach-front gala of food, folk art, and cultural performances from China, India, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Philippines.

The event is likely to draw a crowd of thousands and feature Japanese Taiko Drumming, traditional Chinese lion dancers, Indian Henna tattooing, and Korean traditional games. It will also feature a lively market, arts and crafts, and a selection of delicious cuisine from local restaurants.
May 2025 has officially been proclaimed Asian American and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month in the Town of North Hempstead.
Since the first Asian American Festival in 2010, members of the North Hempstead community have celebrated the Asian cultures represented in North Hempstead during AAPI Heritage Month.
