That roof covers 15,000 square feet of design inspiration at FD & Design’s flagship showroom at 456 Sunrise Highway. After closing a second location during the pandemic, Altarac consolidated and reinvented the Rockville Centre space. The result? A vibrant, unexpected showroom filled with flooring, wallpaper, fabrics, furniture, artwork, and even custom framing.
“It’s not your typical showroom,” Altarac said. “The vibe is fun, funky, and welcoming. There’s usually rock and roll playing, and our team is all about making the process enjoyable. No intimidation—just creativity and great energy.”
A Family Legacy, Reinvented
FD & Design traces its roots back to 1974, when Altarac’s father, Ronnie, and his partner Robert Smith, founded Floor Decor, specializing in flooring and tile. Glenn joined in 1989 with a vision to expand. Over the years, he added fabrics, window treatments, furniture, and more—evolving the business into a full-spectrum design center.
When the pandemic hit, the decision to centralize everything under one roof gave FD & Design new momentum. “Here we are, five years later, thriving,” Altarac said. “Clients love the convenience, and designers appreciate saving time.”
