Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace is taking its next steps to open in Greenvale where it will occupy the previously owned Stop & Shop that closed its doors in November 2024.

Signs for the new specialty supermarket have been installed at 130 Wheatley Plaza, where the Melville-based grocer plans to open a 52,000-square-foot store in the first quarter of 2026, according to the supermarket.

The Greenvale Stop & Shop had operated in a former Pathmark location since 2015, one of 25 A&P-owned supermarkets the company acquired after the chain filed for bankruptcy that year.

Uncle Giuseppe’s, founded in 1998, has steadily grown its presence with an Italian market feel and gourmet offerings, including a full-service deli, butcher, bakery and pasta station.

The company now runs 11 stores across New York and New Jersey, with additional Long Island locations in Bohemia and Levittown in development.

Uncle Giuseppe’s is pushing toward a goal of 20 supermarkets by 2029. Its newest store opened in Tinton Falls, N.J., in 2023.
