The Glen Cove City School District welcomed more than 100 families to the high school for our 7th Annual Family STREAM Night, highlighted by a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the school’s newly renovated science labs.

Members of the Glen Cove Board of Education, who supported the project, joined administrators, staff and students for the ribbon-cutting. The event gave the community a first look at the updated facilities, made possible by the bond passed by our community in December 2022. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a moment of celebration and gratitude to the residents of Glen Cove for their continued investment in the district’s schools and students.

“It was wonderful to see so many families exploring these new spaces together,” said Alexa Doeschner, superintendent of schools. “The state-of-the-art labs provide our students with the modern learning spaces they need to learn and grow, and we are grateful to the community for supporting the bond that turned these plans into reality.”

The evening was packed with interactive activities designed to get students and parents excited about science and technology. Families participated in various stations, including Bubble Science, Doodle Bots,

Save the Duck and the Prismatic Laser Light Show: A laser light show sponsored by the Glen Cove Education Foundation demonstrated the intersection of art and light science.

The success of the evening was made possible through the leadership of Victoria Curtis, Coordinator of Science, and Lauren Lavelle, coordinator of technology, alongside the district’s dedicated STREAM teachers. The event also relied on the hard work of numerous other staff and student volunteers who guided
families through the various hands-on activities.

The Glen Cove City School District continues to prioritize 21st-century learning environments, with the new science labs serving as a cornerstone of the district’s long-term educational goals.
