Lake Grove Teen Dies Falling from Tree

A Lake Grove teenager died when he fell out of a tree he was climbing during a Memorial Day Weekend party in Wading River, authorities said.

Matthew Grimaldi and several others had climbed a tree in the bluffs overlooking the Long Island Sound at Hulse Landing Beach when he lost his footing and became impaled on a tree limb that punctured his chest shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, Riverhead Town Police said.

The 18-year-old victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Riverhead police are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 631-727-4500 ext. 332.
