Don’t Drink and Drive This Labor Day Weekend
As we approach Labor Day weekend, I want to remind residents to not drink and drive.
I recently attended the kick-off to District Attorney Kathleen Rice’s “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” program that will run through this holiday weekend. This is part of the national STOP-DWI mobilization effort that is held with the cooperation of 11,000 law enforcement agencies across the country.
During this enforcement wave, local law enforcement agencies statewide will be out in fullforce, utilizing sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols, to deter drunk driving and ensure the safety of our roadways.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving has reported that 40 percent of all fatalities last Labor Day involved a drunk driver. So please, stay safe and stay sober when behind the wheel.
I want to thank District Attorney Kathleen Rice, Nassau County Police, Commissioner Lawrence W. Mulvey, the Department of Motor Vehicles, the National Highway and Traffic Administration, and the New York State Police for their involvement in this program – and for their continued efforts in raising awareness to this very real problem.

Johnson Hosts Mammography Van During Breast Cancer Awareness Month
I am pleased to announce that once again, I will be sponsoring the Nassau University Medical Center’s Breast Cancer Screening Program in the 7th Senate District. The mammography van will be coming Tuesday, Oct. 6, to Whitney Pond Park on Community Drive in Manhasset, just north of North Shore Hospital from 8:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.
This program provides mammograms for women age 50 and over with no out-of-pocket expense. This portable unit has state-of-the-art equipment and is staffed by the Health Department’s first-rate technicians. Any insurance you have will be accepted. If you are uninsured, there will be no charge.

Remember, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sadly, only 40 percent of American women over the age of 35 get mammograms. Until we find a cure, early detection is our only weapon.
