Soldiers’ Angels Fundraiser
Soldiers’ Angels is holding a fundraiser at Johhny McGoreys, Front St., Massapequa Park. The event will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a $5 door donation and $3 drinks until 7 pm. There will be raffles and food and entertainment. Soldiers’ Angels is a volunteer led nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with over 1,200 volunteers in this area. Their mission is to aid and support the brave men and women of the United States military, veterans and their families.

Tomorrow’s Hope Walk/Bike-A-Thon
The Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation will be conducting its 4th annual “Laps for Learning” walk/bike-a-thon that raises money for the Children’s Scholarship Fund. Laps-for-Learning is a family-fun event held at Cedar Creek County Park, Seaford. The walk/bike-a-thon consists of a 1-mile walk, 2-mile ride and a 4-mile ride. All participants will receive a delicious lunch generously donated by the New York State Councils of the Knights of Columbus. In addition, each participant will receive a free T-shirt to commemorate the event. Raffle chances, face painting, balloons, live DJ music and many more fun activities. All riders/walkers who raise $200 or more in pledges will be entered into a special drawing to win a laptop computer. $10 registration fee per participant. On site registration $20. 24th Annual International Coastal Cleanup
In conjunction with the American Littoral Society will be held at Garvies Point Museum and Preserve, 50 Barry Dr., Glen Cove, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join thousands of volunteers just like you from Argentina to Vietnam who will be picking up trash from miles of beaches all over the world during the cleanup. Information about the trash collected goes to scientists at the Ocean Conservancy to determine what is polluting our water so that we can help stop it. Come for an hour, two hours, the full three hours. Wear old clothes, sneakers or boots (no sandals or flipflops). Bring water, insect repellent, sunscreen and work gloves, if you have them. Walk to Remember
In recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, which aims to increase the community’s understanding of the grief associated with the loss of an unborn or newborn child, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Perinatal Bereavement Team will host the Sixth Annual Walk to Remember at 9 a.m. at Field 5 of Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. This event enables parents, relatives and friends who have lost a child due to pregnancy complications, stillbirth, early infant loss or fetal abnormalities to walk in remembrance of their loved one. The day includes a light breakfast, a candlelight memorial service and the opportunity for parents to create a personal memory page for inclusion in Winthrop’s Memory Scrapbook. A donation of $15 per person is requested; children under 12 years of age may participate for free. The funds raised will support the work of Winthrop’s Perinatal Bereavement Team. From 3 to 7 p.m. Center Lane Pizza and MisMatch and YooHoo the clowns will be hosting a fundraiser at the Center Lane Pizza, Levittown. Twenty percent of the profits will go towards Our Heroes Night Out – a program that provides events for the homeless veterans. There will be lots of fun entertainment for the family. Seeking Local Artists
The Autumn Artique, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Levittown, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Autumn Artique will feature the artwork of church members and local residents as well as glassware, antique china, linens, toys, holiday decorations, books and more. Display space is available to artists who wish to exhibit and sell their work for a nominal fee of $25 for an 8’ display space. The exhibition area will be indoors at the church facility, 474 Wantagh Ave. Levittown. Call the church office 665-6112 to obtain a registration form and to reserve space. Barn Dance

•Pet Loss Support Group. People who feel very sad about the loss or serious illness of their cat or dog can now come to a bi-weekly support group led by an experienced counselor in the conference room at Bide-A-Wee, 3300 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh. These sessions are open to the public; they are not restricted to Bide-A-Wee clients or adopters. The group facilitator is Medea Berkman, a pet loss group leader with many years of experience. She gently guides the healing process to help people come to terms with their feelings of sadness and loss. No fee, but all donations are gratefully accepted to help Bide-A-Wee provide for the animals in our care until we place them in loving homes.
