Paige Dawson Knows Oyster Bay
Paige Dawson answered the Oct. 1, mystery picture saying, “It is Roosevelt Beach with the Nantucket in the background. there are two women and three men and a dog there. The men are in costume – it was taken at the Oyster Festival press conference.” Right!
Ms. Dawson, who is the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce vice president and works for Laffey Associates said, “There is a grand opening at the Chase Edwards art gallery on Oct. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 16 East Main Street.
“Bonnie Elizabeth was involved in the decision, and liked the configuration of the store. [It is a classic from the 1940s.]
“Renaissance Properties Associated renovated the entire front of the building and put up all new glass, and a new door and removed paint from the leaded glass area at the top of the windows, a classic element of that style of store entrance,” said Ms. Dawson, who worked with Bonnie Elizabeth of the Chase Edwards Fine Art Gallery on the space. She also worked with Walter Imperatore of Renaissance Properties on the new What’s Cooking business on East Main Street and the Teaching Studios of Art on Audrey Avenue.
We received an email from Rich Reynolds, of Niskayuna, NY who wrote, “It’s the beach at TR Park. Perhaps taken on International Beach Cleanup Day? I can see the Nantucket Lightship in the distance. It would be nice if the lightship were given a permanent home in Oyster Bay and developed into some sort of tourist attraction.”
Pierre Brandt also recognized the photo as TR Beach with the Nantucket in the background.
Belle Santora said, “It looks to me like the beach, as you come into Roosevelt Park and in the back I think I see the Nantucket.”
Billy Minicozzi recognized people walking on the beach. He corrected last week’s sports note saying, “It was the Yankees not the Mets who are going to the world series.” The Mets are having a forgettable season.
So there we are – everyone notices the Nantucket – it’s kind of big, isn’t it. We would like to see it become a brunch location on the weekends. All you need is a carton of Joe from Dunkin’ Donuts, and a few pastries from The Baykery and there you are.
