Thanksgiving Holiday
I hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving holiday and took time to reflect on what we all have to be thankful for.
Chamber of Commerce – ‘Hospitality Garden City Style’
The Merchants Group, which is a committee of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, along with local Garden City merchants, have come together and invested in a promotional program and advertising campaign to encourage village residents and visitors to shop and dine in our village this holiday season. This program is a “pay it forward” for all the dedicated years of philanthropic donations merchants have, and continue to offer free of charge as great neighbors! Their slogan is “Hospitality Garden City Style.” Look for ads in Newsday, the Garden City News, Garden City Life and all of the other Anton and Litmor publications in Nassau County. Your local merchants are sponsoring a holiday drawing with a variety of great prizes for Garden City shoppers who fill out an entry blank at participating stores. You will see the bright entry form boxes throughout the village, or you can access an entry form at www.Gardencityshopping.com.
I encourage everyone during the upcoming holiday season to shop in Garden City and look for the participating merchants placard to get great service and fair pricing. We all can help keep our commercial districts strong and vibrant.
Garden City Hotel Tree Lighting Ceremony – Monday, November 30
The Garden City Hotel’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is planned for Monday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. I encourage you to attend and to enjoy one of Garden City’s great traditions. We thank the Garden City Hotel for their hospitality in sponsoring this wonderful evening. The evening begins with performances of holiday carols by the St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Choir, festive caroling, a winter wonderland complete with Santa Claus and his elves and model trains, illumination of the hotel’s cupola in festive shades of green and red and the ceremonial lighting of a spectacular 30-foot blue spruce tree at the hotel’s grand entrance. This year’s guest of honor will be Ms. Kathleen Rice, Nassau County district attorney. The highlight of the festivities will be the moment Ms. Rice lights the tree, officially launching the holiday season.
Following the lighting, all are invited into The Garden City Hotel for complimentary refreshments.
Traditional Christmas Tree Lighting – Sunday, December 6
On Sunday, Dec. 6, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its 55th Village Tree Lighting Ceremony, beginning promptly at 3:30 p.m. on the Village Green (corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues).
This year’s program will feature the Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Scarlett Fever Rock Group. The Fire Department will deliver Santa Claus and hot chocolate will be provided to everyone.
Please bring your entire family to welcome Santa and the Holiday Season.
Last Day for Lawn Sprinkling, November 30
As the temperature dips, it is difficult to focus on lawn sprinkling; however, I would like to remind residents that the last day for lawn sprinkling is Nov. 30. The board of trustees joins me in expressing appreciation for the cooperation exhibited by residents in water conservation this past year.
Board of Trustees Meeting Schedule
The next regularly scheduled board of trustees meetings that will be held in December are on Dec. 3 and Dec. 17.
Village’s Web Site
I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village’s website for information regarding the village’s operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. For your convenience, listed on the village’s page is a direct link to the Garden City Chamber of Commerce.
