Rosemary Colvin Knows Oyster Bay
Rosemary Colvin called and identified the Jan. 14 mystery picture in the Enterprise Pilot. She said, “I recognize the mystery picture. It’s Christ Church on East Main Street. The windows face East Main Street. and the Hispanic Cultural Center has space donated by them and I see that view all the time.” Ms. Colvin is on the HCC board.
“It is the driveway to the church on East Main Street – that is adjacent to the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library,” said Jessica Craft.
“I know the mystery picture. It’s the steps and driveway to Christ Church,” said Belle Santora, too.
Billy Minicozzi guessed the mystery photo was at the Catholic church in Bayville. [On a sports note he said Mets centerfielder Carlos Beltran had arthroscopic right knee surgery and will be out eight to 12 weeks.]
“Its Christ Church in Oyster Bay,” said Richard Oakes of Bayville. “I drive past by there a lot when going to Huntington the back way,” he added.
Interestingly, Christ Church was the location of a celebration of cultural diversity last weekend, in honor of Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 18. For the third year in a row Christ Church invited members of the Hood A.M.E. Zion Church to participate in their Sunday, Jan. 17 service. “It was amazing,” said Dr. Susan Peterson Neuhaus.
Although the Rev. Ken Nelson of the Hood Church was called away on a family emergency the church was well represented with about 30 members. Members of Hope Church, a Korean church, that uses Christ Church building after their services are over every Sunday, also attended.
A Diversity Luncheon was held after the service. “There were about 150 people eating different cultural cuisines prepared by the members of Christ Church, the Hispanic Cultural Center and the Korean Church. “It was just a fabulous event,” she said.
It is no mystery that there is always something wonderful going on in Oyster Bay!
