Living Well With Diabetes

The LI Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will hold its fourth annual educational family seminar “Living Well With Diabetes,” at the Melville Marriott, Melville. The event, designed to provide families of children with type 1 diabetes with the opportunity to learn the latest techniques in managing all aspects of the disease, includes panel discussions and guest speakers on health, nutrition and education. Bel Canto Chorale

Bethpage St. Patrick’s Parade

The parade starts immediately after the 1 p.m. Mass at St. Martin of Tours Church ends. The parade route begins on Central Ave., Bethpage, down Stewart Ave. and returning on Broadway to the Showmobile where the Grand Marshal and elected officials will review the parade. Featured in this year’s parade are the FDNY Pipes and Drums, the American Celtic Pipe Band, the Tara Band and the NC Firefighters Pipe Band along with veteran’s groups, historic re-enactment groups, AOH members, fire departments, scouts and the perennial favorite – the K-9 Brigade. American Legion Fundraiser

The Annual I. John Lane Child Welfare Fundraiser at the American Legion Post 1711, N. Jerusalem Rd., Levittown, is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. Proceeds support several “Special Friends” activities throughout the year. This worthy event includes music, an open bar and gourmet buffet. Defensive Driving Course

Boy Scout Troop 96 of Wantagh is sponsoring a Defensive Driving Course on April 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church Meeting Hall, 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh. The cost of the class is $35 per person and all proceeds go directly to Troop 96. Students will receive a course completion certificate good for an insurance discount of up to 10 percent off on their liability, PIP and collision for the next three years and a four-point reduction on traffic violation points. •Pet Loss Support Group. People who feel very sad about the loss or serious illness of their cat or dog can now come to a bi-weekly support group led by an experienced counselor in the conference room at Bide-A-Wee, 3300 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh. These sessions are open to the public; they are not restricted to Bide-A-Wee clients or adopters. The group facilitator is Medea Berkman, a pet loss group leader with many years of experience. She gently guides the healing process to help people come to terms with their feelings of sadness and loss. No fee, but all donations are gratefully accepted to help Bide-A-Wee provide for the animals in our care until we place them in loving homes. •First Stroke Survivors meeting will be held at St. Frances de Chantel Church. Meetings will continue to be held on the first Saturday of every month in room 10 of the schoolhouse.
