Herricks High Presents Carousel
Doug Fabian, to star as Billy Bigelow, in the upcoming Herricks High School production of Carousel opening at 7:30 p.m. Herricks High will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical “Carousel” at Herricks Community Center, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park. The musical will run again on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The production, directed by Louis Delalio, includes a full student orchestra conducted by Scott Stickley. Tickets will be on sale at the door beginning one hour prior to curtain, for $10, $5 for students and senior citizens. Bonsai Society to Hold Root Pruning Workshop
The Bonsai Society of Greater New York, Inc. will host a Root Pruning Workshop at 8 p.m. at the Farmingdale College Greenhouse. Resident bonsai artist Vincent Russo Jr. will lead participants through the process of inspecting bonsai for being in a ‘root bound’ condition, and then lead everyone through the process of removing the correct amount of soil and roots and refreshing the planting. These techniques are appropriate for houseplants as well as bonsai. Please bring a sturdy pair of chopsticks, and a temperate bonsai or a pot bound/root bound houseplant that has been in its container for at least one year. Soils and instruction will be provided. North Hempstead Town to Hold Polar Plunge at Bar Beach
The Town of North Hempstead Winterfest/Polar Plunge
The Town of North Hempstead will hold its Special Olympics Winterfest and Plunge at Bar Beach in Port Washington. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the “plunge is at noon. Along with the hundreds of town residents, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman will join with other elected officials in the “plunge.” There is no set registration fee, however, if you raise $100 you are entitled to a free plunge sweatshirt. All monies raised will be used for Special Olympics athletes travel expenses, uniforms and whatever else they might need. Plus, Panera Bread will supply bagels, etc. for breakfast. There will also be a face painter and several radio stations broadcasting.

Attorney General Consumer Fraud Awareness at Notre Dame
On March 15 at 7:30 p.m. a consumer fraud representative from New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s office will speak at Notre Dame School on consumer fraud as part of Attorney General Cuomo’s statewide Consumer Awareness Initiative. The presentation will inform participants on how to best avoid consumer scams, such as sweepstakes, bank freezes, mail orders, fake charities, “phishing” emails, check cashing scams, and identity theft. North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Town Clerk Leslie Gross announce the 17th Annual May W.
