One Ring Circus with National Circus Project

Monday, March 29, Tuesday, March 30 and Wednesday, March 31 at 1 and 3 p.m.

Some of the world’s finest performers will be coming by to spend the day in the LICM Theater to help us close out Circus Month. Come in to laugh, juggle and clown around with these members of the National Circus Project. They will astound you with their skill in balancing, juggling, plate spinning and more!

Spring Blossoms

Thursday, April 1 – Friday, April 2 from 1-3 p.m.

The spring season gets its name from the many flowers and plants that spring alive every year. Come join us this springtime and learn how to make personalized paper flowers that are sure to delight! Make one for yourself or a bouquet for a loved one,  All ages. Free with museum admission. All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $10 for adults and children over 1 year old, $9 seniors, free to museum members and children under 1 year old. Cellini Lodge 42nd Annual Dinner Dance

The New Hyde Park Cellini Lodge No. 2206 will hold its Annual Dinner Dance on March 26, at 7 p.m., at the Chateau Briand, 440 Old Country Road, Carle Place. This year the honorees are Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello, State Bank of Long Island New Hyde Park Manager Richard DeMartino and HSBC Bank Vice-President Robert Valli. Music by DJ Joey. The Jewish observance of Passover begins at sundown tonight and will continue for the seven days until the 5th of April. A very Peaceful and Happy Passover to all our Jewish readers in the area.

Schools Closed for Spring Recess

All schools will be closed for the Spring Recess. Herricks schools will reopen on Tuesday, April 6 and New Hyde Park/ Garden City Park schools will reopen on Wednesday, April 7.

Water Authority of Western Nassau County to Meet

The next regular meeting of the Water Authority of Western Nassau County Board of Directors will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the offices of the water authority, 58 South Tyson Avenue, Floral Park. The public is welcome to attend.

All applications for private and parochial school bus transportation must be received in the transportation offices of the Herricks school and the New Hyde Park/Garden City Park school today in order to be eligible for bus transportation for the next school year.

Dahlia Club Meeting and Class

Propagating dahlias by stem cuttings, a hands on class, will take place at 7 p.m. All supplies will be provided free of charge. At our 8 p.m. meeting Melanie Vassallo of Old Country Gardens will give an interesting and informative presentation on gardening with dahlias in a perennial bed. The New Hyde Park Village Board will hold its regular meeting at 8 p.m. at village hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park.

Williston Park Village Reorganization

The Village of Williston Park will hold its Reorganizational meeting at 8 p.m. in the Assembly Room of Village Hall, 494 Willis Avenue, Williston Park. At that time Paul Ehrbar will be sworn into office as mayor along with trustees Terry Thomann and Kevin Rynne.

The Herricks School Board will hold its regular meeting at 7:15 p.m. at the Herricks Community Center, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park.

New Hyde Park Little League Annual Opening Day Parade

The New Hyde Park Little League will hold its Annual Opening Day Parade to assemble at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Leonard Boulevard and Jericho Turnpike. The parade will kickoff at 10 a.m. sharp and head west on Jericho Turnpike to Covert Avenue where they will turn south on Covert until they reach Stewart Avenue. The parade will then proceed west on Stewart to Michael J. Nuzzi Field where a brief ceremony will be held including the throwing out of the first ball by New Hyde Park Mayor Daniel Petruccio. After the ceremonies the players will be served ice cream.

Introduction to Bonsai

The Bonsai Society of Greater New York, Inc. will host a presentation on Bonsai Basics by John Capobianco, at 11 a.m. at Suburban Water Gardens, home of the Suburban Bonsai, 211 Burrs Lane, Dix Hills. John will cover the basics of bonsai, as he transforms a piece of nursery stock, into a bonsai. The topics of lighting, temperature, humidity, fertilizing, and wintering will all be addressed. Basic styles, wiring, root pruning and grooming techniques will be presented. This is a chance for someone to learn why they have been unsuccessful keeping bonsai. John says, “Bonsai are like dogs and cats, they need to watered, fed and groomed. If you can keep a dog or cat alive, you can keep a bonsai alive.” Course is free. Antiques and Collectibles Auction

The First Presbyterian Church, 16 South 9th Street, New Hyde Park, will hold an Antiques and Collectibles Auction. At 5 p.m. there will be a viewing of items to be auctioned and at 6 p.m. the auction will be held. The New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School Board

The New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School Board will hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Manor Oaks School, 1950 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park,  The board, at that time, will adopt the proposed budget for the 2010/2011 school year. It is anticipated that a motion to adjourn to executive session will be made immediately after the opening of the public portion of the meeting to discuss matters involving particular personnel and matters within the attorney-client relationship. The board expects to return to the public portion of the meeting at 8 p.m.

New Hyde Park/Garden City Park to Vote on BOCES Candidates

As required by the New York State Education Department Law, all school boards must vote on the BOCES Administrative Budget and candidates for the BOCES board. The New Hyde Park/Garden City Park board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom of the administrative offices to vote. No other business will be conducted at this meeting.

Herricks School Board to Meet To Vote on BOCES

The Herricks School Board will meet at 7:15 p.m. at the Herricks Community Center, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park. The first order of business will be to vote on the BOCES budget and on the BOCES candidates. The board will then hold its regular school board meeting.
