John Peter Ianno, passed away suddenly on April 22, 2010. Husband of the late Helen. Father of Mary Beth (James) Cody, John (Linda) Ianno, James (Barbara) Ianno, Michael (Kelly) Ianno, Kathleen (Philip) Pappas, Chris (Thomas) Reynolds and Maureen (Michael) Palumbo. Grandfather of Jimmy, Kristen and Brian Cody, Deidre and John Ianno, Michael and Mallory Ianno, Stephen and Jacqueline Pappas, Thomas, Tyler, Maggie, Kyle and Ryan Reynolds, Alyssa and Jenna Palumbo. Brother of Ann (Sal) Sessa.
A 1948 graduate of Fordham University, Mr. Ianno was a decorated WWII veteran, served in the European Theater 1943-46 with the 87th Infantry Division. He was the recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge and the European Victory Medal. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, 1973, and was a retired colonel of the 453rd U.S. Army Military Intelligence Detachment. He was awarded the Meritorius Service Medal.
Mr. Ianno founded the CYO program at St. Kilian’s Parish and coached CYO basketball for over 35 years. He coached the Farmingdale Little League for his sons and grandsons for many years. He was past president of the St. Kilian Holy Name Society, member of the Knights of Columbus, usher at St. Kilian Parish and an avid lifelong Yankee fan.
Arrangements entrusted to the McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, Farmingdale. Funeral Mass was held at St. Kilian RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery.
