The Lady Baymen travelled to Nanuet High School on June 8 to face off against Babylon for the Long Island Class ‘B’ Championship.
It was a hard-fought game that went into extra innings when Babylon tied the score at 5-5 in their last at bat in regulation play (7th inning).
In the ninth inning, Kerry Apicella hit a triple with 2 runners on base to bring the score to 7-5 in favor of Oyster Bay.
Kerry Apicella then returned to the mound for a three up, three down inning to secure the title for the Lady Baymen. Keri Bongiovanni and Joshlyn Grant were the runners on base who scored the winning runs on Kerry Apicella’s triple in the ninth inning of the Long Island Championship Game.
Joshlyn Grant was a big part of the victory as she stole home in the first inning, went 4 for 4 at the plate including two home runs.
Added to that: On Wednesday, June 9, at the Nassau County Softball Coaches Association dinner Kerri Apicella earned the following awards:
All-County
Senior Scholar Athlete
$500 Coaches Association Scholarship
Class B Playoff MVP
