Holiday Movie

The Recreation Department will be showing Toy Story 3 at St. Paul’s Cluett Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. The movie runs approximately 98 minutes. Admission is free. Popcorn and snacks will be available for a nominal charge. The Recreation staff will supervise.

Holiday Gym Program

During the Holiday Recess, the Garden City Recreation Department will offer a gym program for children in the St. Paul’s Fieldhouse on Dec. 27, 28, 29, 30. This program is open to youngsters of the Inc. Village of Garden City only.

The schedule for these programs will be as follows:

Kindergarten and first grade – 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Second and third grades – 10:30 a.m. to noon

Fourth, fifth, and sixth grades – noon to 2 p.m.

For grades seven to 12 –fieldhouse will be open for supervised open play from 2 to 6 p.m.

For college students: Field house will be open for basketball from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Zumba and Adult Ballet Classes Now Registering

 

The following dance and exercise classes for adults will be offered by the Recreation Department:

Ballet Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m.12 weeks $108

Zumba Tuesdays at 7:45 p.m.12 weeks $108

Zumba Thursdays at 9:15 a.m.12 weeks $108

Zumba Saturdays at 9 a.m.10 weeks $90

All classes are lead by Felicia Lovaglio, director of our Dance Conservatory and adjunct professor at Adelphi. Each class is one hour long and will be held in Cluett Hall. All classes will begin the week of Jan. 11. To register for any of these classes, fill out the form below and return to the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. Please make your check payable to “Village of Garden City.”

Peeweee Sports Sampler – Winter Session

 

The Garden City Recreation Department will once again offer our very popular Pee-Wee All Sports Sampler program this winter for children, ages 4 and 5, who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This six-week program will begin the week of Jan. 12 and has been designed to provide an opportunity to try a wide variety of sports with basic instruction. This program will run for 55 minutes and will be an instructional, incorporating new skills and free play in a non-competitive atmosphere.

It will be held in the St Paul’s Field House according to the following schedule:

Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.

Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.

Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Thursdays at 1:15 p.m.

The cost of this program is $75. To register for this program, please fill out the registration form and submit with payment to the Garden City Recreation Dept. at 108 Rockaway Avenue. For additional information please contact the Recreation Office at 465-4075.

Preschool Arts and Crafts Classes Now Forming

The Recreation Department will begin its first session of Preschool Arts and Crafts the week of Jan.11. This six-week program is held at St. Paul’s Cluett Hall and is open to children ages 3-1/2 to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City.

Children interested in this program may register for either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The cost of each 45-minute, six-week session is $30.

The child registering must be 3-1/2 by the start of the class in order to register for a session. To register, visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue.

Join Us for the Winter Session of Mad Science

The Recreation Department will again offer an after school science program for grades K-five run by Mad Science of Long Island. These hands on workshops offer topics such as “Slime Time” and “Dry Ice Capades” in a fun and educational way! Make-and-take-its will be included in the sessions. This six-week program will begin the week of Jan. 11, according to the following schedule:

Grades K-two: Tuesdays at 4 p.m.

Grades Three to Five: Thursdays at 4 p.m.

All classes are one hour in length and will be held in St. Paul’s Senior Center, next door to the Recreation Office, at 108 Rockaway Ave. The cost of this six-week session is $95. Adult Tennis Interest Forms Now Available

Registration for the winter session of our Adult Tennis Lessons has now started. Classes will begin in January and are played at the Community Park Tennis Facility. Our 10-week, one-hour class will cost $249.

The Recreation Department offers lessons for adults in all ability levels. In order to create sessions geared to the needs of our residents, we are asking any adult who is a resident in the Inc. Village of Garden City and is interested in our tennis lessons to visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave and fill out an interest form. Please bring a check payable to Village of Garden City which will accompany your form. Classes will then be made by grouping people of similar abilities according to the dates they are available. Your check will not be cashed until you are entered in a class. All interest forms must be received by Dec. 30 so that we may put together classes in a timely manner.

Tennis Ultimate Workout for Adults

The Recreation Department also offers a tennis workout program at Community Park Tennis Facility that drills experienced tennis players. This 1-1/2 hour class is available on Saturday mornings at 10 am at a cost of $249. The program runs for nine weeks. To register for this great workout, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. Payment must accompany registration.

Open Gym for Middle/High Schoolers

The Field House will be open beginning Tuesday Dec, 7 for grades six–12 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursday for basketball and volleyball. The Field House will be monitored but no organized activities will be scheduled. This time is for students to play with their friends in a supervised setting. No organized practices and no adults will be allowed in the gym at this time.

Second Session of Adult Yoga Now Registering

It’s time to register for our very popular adult yoga classes, which will begin in January. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed adult yoga classes with all ages in mind. Each class is one hour long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s and will begin the week of Jan. 3. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The course schedule is as follows:

Mondays at 7:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 3 – 12 classes for $72

Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning Jan. 5 – 13 classes for $78

Adult Basketball on Saturdays

Beginning Saturday Dec. 4, the Recreation Department will again offer Adult basketball in the Middle School’s South Gym from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. This free program is open to residents who have graduated high school and older. Proof of residency is required. Games are in “pick-up” format and the sessions are monitored by Rich Anderson. This program will run until Feb. 19.

Children’s Winter Yoga Now Registering

Connie McKnight, a certified yoga instructor, has designed yoga classes with children’s abilities in mind. Each class runs for 55 minutes. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s and will begin the week of Jan. 3. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, ages 6-18, is invited to join these relaxing classes.

Ages 6-11 Wednesdays at 4:45 p.m., beginning Jan. 5 – 12 classes for $72

Ages 10-18 Fridays at 6:45 p.m. beginning Jan. 7 – 12 classes for $72

Summer Pool Interviews

The Recreation Department is announcing the start of a series of interviews for summer jobs at the Garden City Pool. If you enjoy being outdoors and are willing to make a commitment to be a part of a team that works hard to provide quality facilities to our residents, the Recreation Department would like to meet you.

If you are presently a high school senior (graduating in June) or older and are looking for a great summer job, stop in the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave., pick up an application and make an appointment for an interview or you can call the office at 465-4075.

Reminder: Even if you were employed by the pool last year, you are still required to reapply and be interviewed for the upcoming season.

Interviews will be held at St. Paul’s Cluett Hall on the following dates:

Thursday, December 30: 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

Monday, January 3: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Tuesday, January 4: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Friday, January 7: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Gym Program for Grades Three to Five

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter, Rich Anderson and the Recreation Staff will conduct a gym program for children in grades three to five.

This free program will consist of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. It will run from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. in St. Paul’s Field House beginning the week of Dec. 6 through Feb. 11, according to the following schedule:

Boys in grades three to five on Mondays from 3:30–5:45 p.m.

Girls in grades three to five on Fridays from 3:30–5:45 p.m.

Sneakers must be worn for any activity in the field house.

Although this is a free program, registration is required. Please visit the Recreation Office to pick up a registration form or it may be downloaded from our website at www.gardencityrecreation.org and brought to the first session your child attends. For further information, please contact the Recreation Office at 465-4075.

Note: Once the children are in our facility, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child and please be prompt.

Gym Program for Grades K-2

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter, Rich Anderson and the Recreation Staff will conduct a gym program for children in kindergarten through grade two.

This program will consist of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. This program will run on Wednesdays, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in St. Paul’s Field House beginning Dec. 8 and ending Feb. 9. The program is free but a permission slip is necessary. For further information, contact the Recreation Office at 465-4075.

Meeting Dates –January 5, 12, 19, 26; February 2, 9

Although this is a free program, registration is required. Visit the Recreation Office to pick up a registration form or it may be downloaded from the website at www.garden cityrecreation.org and brought to the first session your child attends. Winter Floor Hockey

The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to announce it will once again offer a Floor Hockey Program this winter at Field House at St. Paul’s. The program will be open to village residents between the ages of 5-14 on select Fridays according to the following schedule:

Ages 5-7: 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

Ages 8-10: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Ages 11-14: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

On the following dates: Jan. 7, 21; and Feb. 4, 18.

The cost of this program will be $25. All participants are required to wear the following equipment at all times: Hockey Helmet with a cage, hockey gloves, shin pads, sneakers, and hockey stick.

Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable. You can also make your own by listing your child’s name, address, home and emergency phone number, birth date, grade, and the session for which you are registering. Mail or drop off all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation Department at 108 Rockaway Ave. Please make all checks payable to the “Inc. Registration for Session Two Children’s Tennis Begins

The winter session of youth tennis instruction is rapidly filling. If you have not registered for our winter session, don’t wait. We offer classes for children ages 4-18 at all ability levels in 13-week sessions at the Community Park Tennis Facility. To register for any level, visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. to learn what classes are available.
