Sacred Heart Academy Honors Floral Park Sisters at Dance

Close to 350 people gathered at Sacred Heart Academy last week to celebrate the lives of two special alumnae, Jamie and Paige Malone of Floral Park. The dance, held on Thurs., Dec. 30 in the Sacred Heart Academy gymnasium, raised more than $20,000 for the Jamie and Paige Malone SHA Memorial Fund, which will support scholarships for middle school students hoping to attend the all-girls Catholic high school, located in Hempstead.

“The presence of so many SHA alums was a tribute to Jamie and Paige,” says Sister Jeanne Ross, president of Sacred Heart Academy. “I was proud to be a member of the Sacred Heart community and I am sure the Malone family was touched by response to the memorial. It was an honor to be there.”

The Malone sisters, along with Michael Mulhall, all of Floral Park, were killed in a car accident on the Meadowbrook Parkway in July as they were heading to Camp ANCHOR in Lido Beach where they worked.  Michael is the brother of two SHA graduates, Carrie (’09) and Grace (’09). Michael’s family, as well as the Malone family, including sister, Daphne (’04), brother, Terrence, and parents, Jim and Diane, were there.

“To experience the love of the family and the outpouring of the friends all working so hard to make this a fabulous night was truly a celebration of the lives of Jamie and Paige,” says Mary Jo Clarke, of the SHA office of institutional advancement.  “I know they were smiling down from heaven.”

SHA officials say this is the first of what will be an annual celebration. For information about donating to the fund, visit the Sacred Heart Academy web site, at www.sacredheartacademyhempstead.org.
