Garden City High School Students Named as Zone Award Athletes

Two high school seniors, Preston Zhang and Jessica Blatz, were selected to receive the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD) award for outstanding physical education students. Preston and Jessica were nominated by physical education teachers Paul Cutter and Jennifer Pomponio. The AHPERD awards are given to students who exemplify and demonstrate an understanding of the NYS Learning Standards of Health and Physical Education by exhibiting a physically active lifestyle, both during and outside of school, and by demonstrating responsible personal and social behavior, including good sportsmanship, character, civility and citizenship.

“Jessica and Preston demonstrate leadership and are positive role models for their peers,” Ms. Pomponio commented. “They also exhibit exceptional achievement in physical education class. The physical education department is so proud of our two seniors and would like to congratulate them for being the outstanding AHPERD students of the year.”
