A pair of dominating performances on the offensive boards by junior forward Kevin Roach helped lift the MacArthur boys basketball team to consecutive wins against Herricks and Port Washington as the Generals improved to 4-1 in league play.
Since foul trouble limited his contribution in a non-conference loss against Farmingdale, Roach has averaged 17.3 points per game over a four-game span. That stretch was capped by a 23-point performance in MacArthur’s 61-52 win at Port Washington on Friday, Jan. 14. Roach’s output that night — which included 13 of MacArthur’s 15 first-quarter points — established a new career high, surpassing a 20-point performance Roach had as a freshman against Syosset on Jan. 14, 2009.
MacArthur also got big scoring outputs from junior guard William Cheshire and senior guard Kevin Monahan in a 77-48 win against Herricks on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Cheshire and Monahan scored 20 points apiece, followed by Roach with 15 points, as the Generals (6-4, 4-1 Conference AA-II) remained unbeaten at home during the 2010-11 season. Cheshire’s three-pointer with 7:02 remaining in the game against Herricks opened a 30-point lead. Senior guard Jordan Beavers netted his first six varsity points late in that game.
MacArthur plays Friday, Jan. 21, when it hosts Hicksville at 6:15 p.m.
