For all the Gleeks out there, this news may be a shock.

According to Deadline.com, Chord Overstreet (Sam on ‘Glee’), the favorite shirtless member of New Directions will not be returning as a regular in the cast of Fox’s hit show “Glee.” Although he will not be returning as a regular for Season 3, fans will be happy to know that he may return sporadically throughout the season.

Sam arrived in Season 2 playing a transfer student who joined the football team, becoming the star quarterback before joining the Glee club. Overstreet appeared in 21 episodes of Season 2.

The actor responded by tweeting on his official Twitter page: “well its been a good yr too bad its over, time for summer and starting fresh.”

The last season of “Glee” ended in New York City with the New Directions—the name of the Glee club—competing in nationals performing original songs, but unfortunately did not place.

The future of the rest of the cast of “Glee” is up in the air according to creator and head writer Ryan Murphy. According to Pop Eater, Darren Criss, who plays Blaine, will join the show’s credits for Season 3, and Harry Shum Jr. will also become a regular.

Season 3 is slated to return to Fox September 20.

The cast of “Glee” was recently on Long Island performing in their Glee Tour at the Nassau Coliseum on June 18. After their two performances they traveled to the United Kingdom, and are scheduled to perform in Dublin, Ireland for two days in July.

“Glee” first appeared on Fox in May of 2009 and gained popularity for its singing, dancing and witty humor.
