800px Jetblueoaklandfeb709JetBlue airways announced their plans to open a second destination for non-stop flights to Costa Rica on Thursday.

The airline will now offer direct flights to Liberia out of New York’s JFK airport, according to a statement released on the company’s website. The new flights will officially begin departing on November 17 of this year, but flights can be booked as early as July 15.

“We’re delighted to be adding Liberia to our growing list of destinations and giving our customers access to the breathtaking Guanacaste beaches and natural parks,” said Chad Meyerson, the director of global sales for JetBlue. “Costa Rica and its people have much to offer and have been a great partner since we started flying to San Jose more than two years ago. We’re happy to be able to strengthen that relationship today while expanding our footprint in Central America.”

Costa Rica’s Minister of Tourism, Allan Flores, was also pleased with the airline’s newest addition. “We are overjoyed that JetBlue has added Liberia to its list of destinations giving U.S. travelers even greater access to Costa Rica. This new route will allow U.S. travelers to have unprecedented access to Costa Rica’s Northwestern region rich with so many tourist offerings, particularly during the high season months.”

To honor the airline’s launch of their 70th destination, a special deal on the flights for the first few months will be available. Prices will start at $139 for flights that are scheduled to depart between November 17 and February 14.

The company recently held a contest on their official Facebook page, “JetBlue’s Guess Where We’re Going” promotion to give away a trip to participants who correctly guessed the airline’s next destination. The winners received a four day, three night vacation for two to Liberia.

The airlines decision to fly directly into Costa Rica’s Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport is still subject to government approval.

For today only the airline is offering discounted tickets with prices starting at $44 each way. Travel is good for flights departing from July 13 to October 5.
