Long Island was celebrating last night, and it had nothing to do with the Nassau Coliseum.

Long Island native, J.P Rosenbaum, was the winner of “The Bachelorette” Monday night, and is now on the road to marriage as he and the show’s star, Ashley Hebert, got engaged at the end of ABC’s popular reality show.

The 34-year-old from Roslyn was a fan favorite throughout his time on the show, and the desired winner by many fans. According to a poll by ABC.com J.P Rosenbaum received 72 percent of the popular vote in comparison to his competitor who received only 24 percent of the votes. Rosenbaum’s popularity grew on Long Island after he took Hebert on a date to Hot Skates in Franklin Square, where the couple skated and goofed around at the popular skating rink.

The previous week on “The Bachelorette” the selection had been narrowed down to Ben Flajnik, a Maine native and J.P Rosenbaum, of Roslyn. However, last night Rosenbaum took home the final rose and the heart of the bachelorette.

During the final episode it was clear to fans that Rosenbaum was about to win as Ashley turned down Flajnik’s proposal and waited for Rosenbaum’s sea plane to arrive with a smile on her face.

Rosenbaum proposed to her by saying: “All the time we’ve spent together, it’s been the happiest time of my life, and you always say to me you’re smiling all the time, you’re going to have wrinkles when you’re older. Well, I smile because of you. You bring that out. What I do know for absolute certain is that I am madly in love with you. I love everything about you.”

On bended knee he gave Ashley a Neil Lane diamond engagement ring and continued stating, “I’m so in love with you. You’re the one. You’re it. Ashley will you marry me?”

Ashley Hebert replied with a “Yes!” and a passionate kiss finalized the magical moment in Hebert and Rosenbaum’s life.
