As families continue their vacations this summer, we are extremely busy here in the district with the many initiatives, state mandates and changes that will be required of all school districts across the state this coming school year. It is the intent that all of these mandates and requirements will have a positive effect on student achievement. This is an exciting time in public education and our district is ready for the challenges and the accountability we are being held to. The following list highlights changes this year:
• Commencement of revised New York State Standards in all curriculum areas married to Common Core Standards.
• Progress monitoring of student achievement aligned to our Response to Intervention Plan.
• Staff Inquiry/ Instructional Support Teams revised for student progress.
• New York State assessments revised.
• Revised Special Education Individual Education Plan (IEP).
• Revised professional educators’ evaluation system.
As we prepare our students to live in a global economy, I am optimistic that these initiatives matched to our Five Year Plan will have the net results of increased student achievement.
