Nassau Coliseum-Hub Development Bond Referendum Goes Down

The residents of Nassau County have spoken. The Aug. 1 bond referendum for the Coliseum-Hub development plan was voted down. The proposal included a reconstructed sports arena for the Islanders hockey team in place of the present Nassau Coliseum, a new minor league baseball park, and a bolstered Museum Row complex.

If the referendum had passed, the plan still would have needed the approval of the Nassau County Legislature and the Nassau County Interim Finance Authority (NIFA). Because the referendum failed, Islanders owner Charles Wang will not pay for the expenses the county incurred in holding the vote.
