Editorial: The Good Wins Over the Bad

This past weekend, Sept. 10 and 11, was a tribute to the best of man and a reminder of the worst depths man can descend into.

The Atlantic Steamer Fire Company arranged to obtain a piece of the World Trade Tower which is now in a beautiful memorial garden next to their marine facility at the Theodore Roosevelt Park. It is a wonderful addition to Oyster Bay and for the world. You must go see it.

That is the good winning over the bad. Maybe that is enough to say.., but there was more going on last weekend.

Raynham Hall Museum opened their new exhibit on the four Alices of the Weeks family. It is amazing. It is based on a scrapbook kept by one of the Alices. The staff created an interactive exhibit that combines the best of the new with the historical material, including a video tape interview by Director Harriet Clark showing the historic scrapbook to Rita Weeks and Townsend Weeks. There are two video displays of the material in the exhibit so that you can see everything up close. It is superb and not to be missed.

On Saturday, 35 artists visited Sagamore Hill and created a plein air exhibit for the Oyster Bay Historical Society, done in conjunction with Ron Zeller of the Studios of Art of Oyster Bay.

The exhibit is delightful. We all know and love Sagamore Hill already so it is extra special to see what 35 artists chose to paint. Each piece is a jewel.

This is another not to be missed exhibit in Oyster Bay.

It would seem to us that the good guys are winning – in spite of the threats to our security – we perservere!

Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah!
