Belle Santora Knows Oyster Bay

The delightful Belle Santora called about the picture in the Sept. 15 issue. She said, “I just turned the page of my copy of the Enterprise Pilot and saw the mystery picture. I was there the day this man was painting at Beekman Beach. Arthur and I were talking to him.”

She added, “I knew the picture last week but I didn’t get around to calling but that’s all right – other people got it.”

As to the Sept. 15 photograph. The artist painting was Kirk Larsen. He was painting a scene looking over to the Western Waterfront Pier. On Sept. 11, he was at Sagamore Hill painting in the Plein Air contest and that evening, wearing a jaunty hat, was exhibiting the painting he did that day. Typically there was a small sailboat in the picture.

Peter Girdano of Bayville called to say he was reading the paper and recognized the picture of the building with the parking lot in the Sept. 8 issue. “It’s on Spring Street,” he said. He said he knew because he goes to Cruise Night. “I have several cars: a 1969 Dodge Super Bee; and a 1971 Dodge Charger R/T (road and track); and a performance car, a 1971 Plymouth Cuda. They are all muscle cars,” he said.

As the writer of a column in this newspaper several years ago – You Auto Know, it is always nice to hear from car fans!
