Pedestrian Critically Injured After Vehicle Strikes Him In Lindenhurst

A pedestrian was critically injured after a vehicle struck him while he was attempting to cross Sunrise Highway Saturday.

According to Suffolk County Police, at approximately 7:45 p.m., James Del Giudice, 49, was driving on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst approximately 20 feet west of Richmond Avenue, in the middle lane when a pedestrian, Michael Bott, 46, was attempting to cross Sunrise Highway from the center divider in a northerly direction. Del Giudice, of West Babylon, swerved in an attempt to avoid Bott, but could not.

Bott, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, with severe head trauma, bleeding on the brain, a severely fractured pelvis, and numerous fractures to his lower extremities.

Witnesses at the scene told First Squad detectives it appeared that Bott was disregarding traffic while attempting to cross Sunrise Highway.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
