The New Hyde Park Memorial Homecoming celebration could not have fallen on a more beautiful day. It was sunny with a nice breeze wafting though all the events of the day.
The day started off with a spectacular parade led by New Hyde Park Memorial banner carried by the drum majorettes and followed closely by the New Hyde Park Memorial Band, all donned in their marvelous uniforms complete with their wonderful black hats topped with black plumes, gently blowing in the breeze.
The band was quickly followed by the very peppy varsity cheerleaders, and then the junior varsity cheerleaders did their share of jazzing up the sizeable crowd standing by the side of Leonard Boulevard.
Also in the parade were public officials including Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello, New Hyde Park Village Trustee Donald Barbieri and his beautiful service dog Halley, along with Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro and New Hyde Park Park School Board Trustee Frank Miranda.
The floats were next, and keeping to the theme of “Hollywood Hits” they were fantastic. Each class was assigned to specific classic children’s movies including: Harry Potter-Class of 2012; Jaws-Class of 2013; Willy Wonka-Class of 2014; The Wizard of Oz-Class of 2015; Aladdin-Class of 2016 and Star Wars-Class of 2017.
The overall winner of all the floats was Jaws under the direction of advisors Mrs. Inna Rabinowitz and Ms. Pat Tzakas.
Then came the kings and queens perched atop beautiful convertibles and they were: for the kings: Timothy Brooks, Gianpaolo Lisena, Liam O’Connor, Adam Priest, Allen Thomas and Nicholas Viviano.
For the queens: Victoria Bogil, Stacy Chacko, Devon Desanna, Taylor Kerrane, Christine Matthew and Nirmala Singh.
At the end of the half-time festivities, Taylor Kerrane was crowned Queen and Liam O’Connor King.
It was a great day and everyone had a truly fun time, even New Hyde Park Principal Michael DeMartino, in spite of having his arm in a cast as a result of an earlier football game when he was injured while standing on the sidelines of a game.
