The New Hyde Park Village Board held a brief meeting on Tuesday night to discuss both old and new business. Mayor Dan Petruccio and each of the village trustees issued their monthly reports to the public.
The New Hyde Park Village Police Auxiliary car is now back in service after being taken off the road for repairs, according to trustee Rich Coppola Jr. The car which had, “ignition key module failure” has been fixed and will allow the members of the Auxiliary Police unit to better patrol the neighborhood streets. New Hyde Park Legislator Richard Nicolello is to be thanked for the repairs because after he was notified of the situation he moved swiftly to take care of it.
Deputy Mayor Rob Lofaro said the village would receive the delivery of a new dump truck in December to help battle the winter weather. “After the amount of snow we had last winter and some of the earliest snowfall on record, this season we know building superintendent Tom Gannon will need all the help he can get,” added Lofaro.
As of this month the tree trimming in the village has finally been completed and the next big task will be the stump removal. “We lost a lot of trees from the hurricane and we’ll be aggressive about our tree planting initiative,” said Lofaro. He asked residents to contact village hall about the tree situation on their properties.
Trustee Donald Barbieri was absent from the meeting and Mayor Petruccio issued his report. The holiday tree lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 3 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at village hall. It will be followed by a magic show sponsored by State Bank of Long Island. The show and other fun activities will take place at Marcus Christ Hall, adjacent to village hall, on the corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike.
A production of The One and Only Santa Claus will be performed at the William Gill Theatre, on the second floor of village hall, on December 10 at 2 p.m.by some village’s youngsters. A $2 admission fee is required for entry.
Mayor Petruccio said that the Board would hold a public hearing on November 15 at village hall to receive input from the public on the impact of the newly authorized 2 percent tax cap on the municipal budget which goes into effect January, 2012. The board is planning to amend the municipal code in order to override the tax cap.
After the hearing, the board will hold its regular second meeting.of the month.
