Cops: Drugged Driver Hit 2, Killed 1 in Medford

A mother and daughter were struck by a car driven by a woman who was high on drugs in Medford on New Year’s Eve, killing one of them, Suffolk County police said.

Elizabeth Peacock was driving her Nissan Altima on Horseblock Road when she hit the pedestrians, both Medford residents named Maria Galeas, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police said. The victims were standing behind their parked Honda Accord on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway at the time, police said.

All three were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where the 40-year-old daughter was pronounced dead.

Peacock, 45, and the 62-year-old mother suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 40-year-old woman had her 5-year-old daughter restrained in a car seat in the Honda Accord at the time of the crash. She was not injured.

Peacock, also of Medford, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. She will be arraigned at a later date.
