Cops: 2 Men Attempt Robbery But Flee When Shopper Walks In

Two men allegedly attempted to rob jewelry store but were interrupted by a shopper.

According to police, two unidentified men entered the Stein Family Jewelers located at 784 Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. One man demanded the 59-year-old man, who was inside the jewelry store at the time, get in the back of the store while another pointed a handgun at him. The victim was able to activate the panic alarm before having his hands tied together by one of the alleged intruders. Just before the two men got to any proceeds, a 33-year-old shopper walked into the store startling the suspects, who then fled the scene on foot and empty handed.

According to police, there were no injuries reported.

The first suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his early twenties and around 5’8” with a stocky build. He was wearing a black coat, black pants and a black baseball cap with a white bill.  The second suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his early twenties around 6’ with a medium build. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt, sweatpants and was carrying a backpack.
