“Saturday Night Live” has a way of making fun of everyone, but this past Sunday, instead, they backed one singer up.

Kristen Wiig took on Lana Del Ray, who was heavily criticized for her recent January appearance on the show, and said her peace.

It all started with Seth, who introduced her and noted that she sang two songs during her appearance to which Wiig corrects, “That’s what I thought I did Seth, but based on the public’s response I must have clubbed a baby seal while singing the Taliban national anthem.”

She said she didn’t want to talk about the performance instead wanted to then talk about the things people took issue with. Seth mentions one of them: she changed her name from Lizzie Grant to Lana Del Ray for marketing reasons.

“Yes and they’re absolutely right, no serious musician would ever change their name except maybe for Sting, Cher, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, everyone else in hip hop and of course Bob Dylan,” she fired back.

Seth then brings up that her critics believe she wasn’t seasoned enough to be on the show to which Wiig replies, “Indeed, some said I was ‘The worst musical guest in SNL history,'” and that “The music stage on SNL is hallowed ground and I failed to reach the high bar set by past guests like Bubba Sparkxxx, The Baha Men and Shaggy.”

Seth gets in a final question, asking Wiig why she thinks she made so many people angry.

“I think people thought I was stiff, distant and weird, but there’s a perfectly good explanation for that,” she says. “I am stiff, distant and weird.”

“It’s my thing, I stand still and sing sad songs,” she explained. “Some people find it off putting.”

“In this age of dangerous school bullying, you have sent an important message; if you think someone is weird you should criticize them as much as possible,” she explains.

Lana Del Ray performed on Saturday Night Live January 15 and her performance was ripped by a slew of celebrities like Juliette Lewis.

“Wow watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12 year old in their bedroom when they’re pretending to sing and perform. #signofourtimes,” she tweeted. Another celeb took a swipe at the newly popular singer, Eliza Dushku tweeted, “Who…..is….. this wack-a-doodle chick performing on #SNL..? Whaaaa?”
