Shakira took to her Facebook to share the experience, and photographic proof, with her over 40 million Facebook fans.
“This afternoon I happened to see some sea lions and seals,” she explained in a Sunday Facebook post. “I thought to myself how cute they were so I decided to get a bit closer than all of the other tourists and went down to a rock trying to pet them doing a baby talk while taking pictures.”
That’s when the mood changed and the cute animals turned into seemingly-carnivorous creatures, out for Shakira’s blood.
“Suddenly, one of them jumped out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me,” said Shakira.
Shakira says she was was paralyzed by fear and couldn’t move. Luckily, her brother was on hand to save her. ‘”Super Tony’ jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast,” she explained on her Facebook.
Shakira was taught a good lesson on why getting too close to wild animals is never a good idea. Though she walked away safe and sound, it wasn’t all without injury, Shakira did get some scratches from the incident. “We both got our hands and legs scratched by the rocks while trying to protect ourselves,” she said.
Shakira wasn’t blaming the sea lion for the incident though, instead she chalked it up to a misunderstanding, which it probably was.
“I believe what happened is that it confused the shiny reflection of the blackberry I was taking these pics with, with some sort of fish. It probably thought I was teasing it with food and then taking it away from it,” Shakira said.
Shakira, clearly not scared off by the encounter, had another animal encounter, this time with friendly penguins. She again posted of her animal experience on Facebook, saying, “Today with the penguins! Definitely friendlier!!”
