Ever since the passing of Whitney Houston, singers have been doing renditions of her songs to honor her. However, few singers are able to give the pop diva’s songs the proper justice they deserve.
While Jennifer Hudson did a stellar performance of “I Will Always Love You” at the Grammys, there is someone else who unexpectedly sang the song virtually identical to Whitney Houston’s version.
Taiwan’s Lin Hu Chung, remember him? He’s the young man whose rendition of “I Will Always Love You” on a Taiwanese talent show resulted in a record deal.
The record deal with Sony Music Entertainment featured Chinese and English songs on Lin Yu Chun’s debut album. It was first released in July of 2010.
When 24-year-old Lin was first told he was getting a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment he was quoted as saying, “I still can’t believe this is real.”
Lin first gained notice in early 2010 ago on Taiwan’s “Avenue to Stardom.” His performance became an Internet sensation and drew comparisons to Susan Boyle.
The 48-year-old Briton famed for performing “I Dreamed a Dream” on “Britain’s Got Talent” also signed with Sony.
After Houston’s unexpected death, Youtube has been featuring Lin Yu Chun’s performance of “I Will Always Love You” on their site.
The song was introduced to the world thanks to Dolly Parton but in 1992, Houston recorded the song for “The Bodyguard” soundtrack and the song became famous. Houston’s version was a massive success, appearing at 68 on Billboard’s “Greatest Songs of All Time” and spent 14 weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Saturday, Houston was found submerged in her bathtub while preparing for a pre-Grammy party at the Beverly Hilton. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead around 3:55 p.m.
Her official cause of death won’t be released until toxicology reports come back. The results should be back in around six to eight weeks.
