A new Mercedes video has gone viral, and it’s quite impressive.
The Mercedes video follows an invisible car and went viral Saturday, collecting well over 500,000 since being posted.
“When Mercedes wanted to promote its new fuel cell vehicle, instead of placing it squarely in front of everyone in the world, the company decided to make the car invisible. We have video,” reads the caption of the video.
It’s the Mercedes F-Cell, a car that boasts zero emissions and can reportedly travel up to 190 miles using an electric engine.
“These cars emit only water, have a driving range of about 240 miles and can be refueled within 3 minutes,” says Mercedes.
For the video, the company used optical illusion technology to create the invisible aspect of the car. Viewers can watch as the car’s driver side is covered with LEDs while a digital camera is mounted on the other. The camera shoots video on the passenger side of the car, which is then displayed it on the driver’s side.
According to reports, the video was shot during a week-long tour of Germany and shows various pedestrians and images cloaking the car.
Reportedly, fuel cells are expected to enter mass production in 2015. At the moment, a small number of the electric cars are now available in both Northern and Southern California.
“A small number of customers will be given the opportunity to lease these cars in limited areas of California, near Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area,” reads the website.
